| Boys about town2005-12-08Ah, it sure has been a while. Eek, it's been over a year! By Jove. That's what you get for being way too busy to think about performing. But Marijn's finally been working on new demos. Check them out here. It's all one-take stuff, but it gives a very good idea of the direction the band is headed in. On a side note, there's a number of interesting community-2.0-public beta-style projects around these days. Of course, you'll all have heard of MySpace. Marijn started putting an account together there but lost his password; anyway, the site pretty much sucks in his professional opinion. Still, one day soon he'll set himself to the task. There's also something called Sell-a-band. Basically, it's like MySpace, only you can actually save up for a recording. The idea is pretty cool, but with only about 70 bands enlisted at the time of writing (and a site which is arguably even worse than MySpace) it remains to be seen whether or not this will become a success. In any case, should you be bored, be sure to "become a believer" (as they call it). It'll cost you less than 10 euros and we'll be the happier for it. Last but not least - for our Dutch fans - Holland's largest community site CU2 launched a music section this week. There's not money to be made, but with some 500.000 registered users the potential fan base makes up for a lot. Oh, and Marijn coded most of it, so you should definitely check it out here. Well, that's all for now, and be sure to let us know what you think of the new material! P.S. Andy and Niels say "hi" too. Like Marijn, they've been up to their necks in work. Back from the grave2004-12-07Thought we were dead and buried? Think again! The Boys are very much alive and kicking, albeit that work has continued behind the scenes these last few months. So, what's cooking?First of all, we decided to let Sander go as our regular drummer. All of us felt it wasn't gelling together well and fast enough. Chances are Marijn will continue to play with him though in a spin-off band of sorts, but plans for this are still in a very early stage and won't mature till after this summer, probably. As a replacement, we once again drafted Paul van Schaik, who will at least be joining us for the recording of our new single, and probably subsequent shows. Basically, we'll just take it from there and see what happens. As to the single, we're still deciding on which songs it should consist of, so any thoughts on your part are much valued. In our miscallaneous section you'll find some slightly less afwul recordings of candidates Vampire, Traffic and Baby Doll, as well as new candidate A Bond Like This. Also featured are re-recorded demos of I'll Let You Know and Nicotine, as well as another all-new song, Lullabye. Anyway, as soon as we've finally decided what we want to record you'll be the first to know. It's quite a hard choice, since we don't exactly have the money to indefinitely release singles. Yet :) Come to Jamaica2004-12-04The infamous Lickin' My Weed is now available for download. The what? Don't ask, just experience...New bandmember2004-12-04The Boys are happy to announce that Ruben van Mastrigt will be joining them live for gigs. Ruben's a great keyboard player and an allround good guy, so they're very glad to have him aboard. They'll be doing a couple more try-outs this month, then more "proper" gigs are on their way, coinciding with an intended new single. Obviously, more information follows a.s.a.p. Aftermath2004-12-03For those who missed it: the try-out gig was actually quite a success. Usually, on these sort of nights amps blow up, you discover songs don't work live or the audience is totally uninterested - but none of these things occured. The Boys played a short set consisting of Baby Doll, Bring On The Sun, The News, Traffic and Vampire. Strangely, Baby Doll was considered by most people we spoke to afterwards the prime single candidate. The last word hasn't been said on that then! We might do an online poll or something to see what you think sometime soon.Anyway, the photos are here. Notice that Marijn is wearing one of those übercool Boys Republic shirts. If you missed it, don't worry - there'll be more gigs soon. Keep a tab on our news pages or, alternatively, join our mailing list (click and send, no need to type anything if you don't feel like it - or send an email to mailing@boysrepublic.nl with "Join" in the subject if you're using webmail) to be notified automatically.
