| So, who are these fearless warriors who are bringing you all peace, justice and music?
| ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| Marijn Ophorst has played in many bands, and although most of them will sound completely obscure to you, he actually did enjoy some small time successes:
The techno-rock outfit MonoMelodies had a brief spell of local success in Haarlem during the late nineties, before Marijn and his fellow bandmates Thomas and Tijmen screwed everything up by only rehearsing two or three times before their first big gig. | He also played in the rockband Eurotrash, with which he played in Paradiso. This band was fronted by Erik Verkooyen, who now plays with Board of Directors (in which Marijn also played bass for a while).
Before forming Boys Republic, he fronted jASMiNE, which was actually a pretty impressive band but imploded due to "artistic differences"... |
|
| Marijn met Niels Wilmink while rehearsing with his former band, jASMiNE. Though the two never played together, it turned out Niels als plays with Jaco sometimes. | It was also Jaco who suggested that Niels join Boys Republic live. Niels was enthusiastic about the idea, so here he is, playing lead guitar on stage.
In the meantime, he's also hard at work advancing his own group, Tube. |
|
| Ladies and gentlemen, please welcome mr. Andy Will. Fate swept this British lad from his London pad, and delivered him straight to the Boys' lap here in Holland.
Andy plays the bass, and he does so with seemingly effortless precision. | Andy is Victor Wooten's best boy, which basically says it all.
Apart from that, he also does a brilliant Gollum impression, which might come in handy some day. Though probably not. |
|
| Sander Riepma is a Haarlem born-and-bred drummer, who as it turned out lives a block away from where Marijn used to live. At the moment he studies audio design at the HKU in Utrecht, which is - apart from his drumming skills - most convenient as recording dates for the new single draw near. | Among his many other talents, he has a driver's license. Yay! Oh, and he's also generally a fun guy to be around, which helps. But most importantly, he hits them drums like a maniac.

| Jaco van der Steen has been involved with music for so many years everyone has lost count.
Previous exploits include hitting the Dutch Top 40 with his band Park. These days, he runs his own studio (MusicNuts!) and plays bass with Dutch singer/songwriters Veldhuis & Kemper. | And of course, he also produces Kismet and plays on many of the tracks.
Jaco met Marijn during an early jASMiNE gig, and hasn't seemed to be able to get rid of him so far... www.JacovanderSteen.nl |

| Paul van Schaik is a professional session drummer from Haarlem, and (actually) in the Dutch major league, so to speak.
He ended up playing on Kismet because Jaco knew him and asked him, and he turned out to be a really nice guy, so don't be surprised to see him appearing for some live shows too in the future. | Apart from being involved in all sorts of projects, Paul is, like Marijn, a crossword addict and enjoys going out and having a beer, which is probably one of the reasons these three men get on so well. | |
| Luc Fransen met Marijn while they were both at university in Amsterdam studying political science. Luc was previously a member of jASMiNE, fronted Titus in which Marijn played bass (trying out songs like Bring On The Sun and Residue). | Luc currently plays guitar and vocals in Board of Directors with Marijn's other old associate, Erik Verkooyen. His contributions to Kismet on vocals, guitar and freaky ideas are much appreciated. | |
| Mara Evers was Marijn's girlfriend for almost a year. The couple split just prior to the start of the Kismet recording sessions. Nevertheless, being a singer, Mara agreed to contribute some vocals on The Strangest Thing. | Mara lives in Haarlem with her boyfriend Boris, who is a painter and musician. | |
![]() | Nadia van Spronsen met Marijn via a sort of dating site (hey, this is the 21st century!). Though they have never been involved romantically, the two have become friends, sharing a love of singing, Blur records and speaking in English. | Nadia lives in The Hague where she studies musicology. Apart from the occasional singing (which she does very well, though she'll never admit it) she busies herself with her own weblog. |
| Steven Kruiswijk has known Jaco for years, and has frequently helped him out in the studio, not in the least during the recording of Kismet. As it turned out, he is also a damn good keyboard player and singer. | Steven would like to join the band live more often, though as he is the only member not living in Haarlem it is at this point uncertain as to whether this will be on a regular basis, or just on incidental gigs. | |
